“…a long time ago in…”
The joint venture between LEGO and George Lucas Star Wars Productions started in 1999. was the first theme based cooperations between LEGO and a merchandising company. Before the minifigures, that LEGO had introduced in 1978 were not focused on certain themes or characters but more generalized. Thus the stories to be played, the roles to be experienced had to be created by the child itself. The public influence of the Star Wars saga was so impressing that LEGO changed this policy and since then has developed many further cooperations for example around the “Spiderman” and “Harry Potter” films.
At the time of writing hundreds of LEGO sets connected with every part of the Star Wars trilogy have been created. Almost every single
character known from the original Star Wars Films can be played as a LEGO minifigure. In addition LEGO introduced the “Ultimate Collector Series” . These are larger items that require much more skills to build. They are mainly designed for exhibition purposes instead to actively play with. Very popular among the younger customers are the two computer games: “LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game” and “Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy“. They can be played on almost every gameplatform. In 2007 in time for the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars premiere an adaption for the Nintendo Wii is planed.
