LEGO Star Wars II:
The Original Trilogy
The first LEGO Star Wars video game was a huge success. Though it was originally designed and rated as a game for kids it became a bestselling game leading the charts for weeks. The sequel “LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy” builds on that success. It was first released in September 2006 the same day the unaltered editions of the original Star wars trilogy was released on DVD. Again everything in this video game is build of LEGO Star Wars bricks. They fall apart when the character fails these Lego parts fall apart: a often humorous way to retell the original Star Wars Saga. The playable characters include Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Ben Kenobi, Boba Fett, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine.
A big advantage of this second sequel of LEGO Star Wars video games is the ability to create new characters. To do this the player mixes character parts of their choice. The character parts chosen result in a new name for the person played. So you can creat Boba Skywalker, Master Leia as well as Darth 3PO. Only the saved characters from the first sequel are excluded from this customization. However they can be saved if they where successfully played in the first sequel. Another important new feature is “adaptive difficulty“. The difficulty off the different levels adjusts to the experience of the individual player. The feature was included in response to critique regarding the relative ease of “LEGO Star Wars The Video Game“. While most people liked the game they where completed it to fast. The new “adaptive difficulty” feature can be turned on and off manually.
“LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy” starts at the beginning of “The new Hope” and finishes at the end of “Return of the Jedi“. So a period of four years in the original Star Wars universe are covered. “Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy” has beeen extremely succesfful. In the first week after its release alone more then 1.1 Million copies have been sold.
